No-code website creation has proven itself as a technology that’s here to stay, but it faces stiff competition from long-established players with deeply ingrained habits. While Framer is among the leaders of no-code website development, it’s still considered a newcomer in the market.
This post kicks off a series where I’ll track the usage of Framer and its competitors across the entire internet. Luckily, tools like BuiltWith.com make it easy to gather this data. The first report was created in November 2024, and you can find it here.
WordPress
The widely recognized WordPress remains the market leader in CMS-based website building, with a 41.5% market share, equating to approximately 33,321,761 sites. However, this number has decreased by about 1.5 million since last month.
Wix
Wix held a 10.41% share in December 2024, with 8,359,629 live sites. This is 150,000 fewer sites than in November.
Squarespace
Squarespace is the first platform from this list that saw growth in December, with around 40,000 new sites created. It now has 5,494,572 sites, equating to a 6.84% market share.
Webflow
Framer’s closest competitor, Webflow, had a standout month in December, seeing nearly 100,000 new sites launched, resulting in a 20% growth. There are now 600,897 active sites using Webflow technology.
Canva
The much-loved-and-hated all-in-one creative tool Canva has experienced explosive growth in 2024, breaking into the market and gaining traction quickly. In just one year, 132,693 live sites have been created with Canva.
Framer
Framer, too, has impressive growth to show, with a 12% monthly increase. Currently, there are 103,007 live sites running on Framer’s technology, but there’s still room for growth.
YCode
A new and frequently mentioned alternative to Framer and Webflow, YCode has yet to see significant growth, with just 220 live sites to date. However, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye on.
